Green initiatives in Kiani Beach Resort
Lack of sewage recycling and neutralisation are among the most important problems of ecology. Taking this into consideration, Kiani Beach Resort has invested on 3km long pipes and multiple pumps that transfer on a daily basis its wastewaters to the nearest Biological Sewage Treatment factory which uses bio-filters consisting of reservoirs and various devices attached to them to form micro flora and thus reduce pollution of environment.
In Kiani Beach Resort we are cooperating with the local municipality in separating our solid waste (to the degree it is possible and efficient) into paper, aluminum and plastic. Please help us in the process by using our “Recycle” bins next to the pool area.
Rooms and communal areas: To minimise electricity consumption (and thus CO2 emissions) we have placed in all rooms “card activation electricity switches” so as electricity is off when guests are not in the room. In communal areas we have placed sensors that switch-on lights only when guests are present.
Water conservation: All toilet flashes used in Kiani Beach Resort have a double switch which gives the opportunity to reduce by ½ the consumption of water. In all bathrooms and showers we have used material that can help in reducing water consumption.
During the construction of Kiani Beach Resort we performed a thorough environmental study. As a result of this study and in cooperation with the local municipality we have invested in pipes and pumps that transfer the cold water (approximately 10o C during summer) of Kiliari’s river to Kiani Beach Resort. With the appropriate technology, the low temperature of the water, helps in the cooling of rooms and common areas of Kiani Beach Resort. This process has minimised by almost 30% the electricity we would have needed if conventional air-conditioners were used.
Heating and Hot-Water
In order to minimise the use of electricity (and thus CO2 emissions) the heating produced by the pumps of air-conditioners is transferred to the water-boilers and thus contributes to the heating of water. This method has reduced approximately by 40% the use of oil to operate Kiani Beach Resort’s boilers.
In many areas of Kiani Beach Resort we use energy saving Compact Fluorescents (CFs) bulbs of 60-watt (produces more light per watt used) so as to minimise electricity consumption and thus CO2 emissions.
